Why I want to be a writer

Mum says if I want to be a writer I’ve got to write every day. But the question is why do I want to be a writer? I guess I just like filling up a whole clean white gleaming page. I mean there’s no rule in writing. You can write about anything- your house, family, pets, weave out a whole new story or just write about life itself. I admire J.K. Rowling with her writing; she just makes everything fit together, like a puzzle. There’s no loose ends in her “Harry Potter” series. I hope one day I can be as clever as her. I also hope I can be as successful a blog writer as mum, and put humour that can make people laugh out loud like she does. I also hope that I can make people cry. Only months ago I thought it would be horrible to make people cry, even in writing. But somehow I’ve changed. I love to cry watching movies or reading books. That’s sounds weird I guess. So if anything you read on this blog that makes you cry, tell me please!

Nothing has made me cry - yet. I’m sure if you stick with it you could be a very successful blogger and author. Look where your Mum is now and she only started not so long ago. I guess the thing is to write about things which interest you and then it is easier to make them interesting for other people to read. You have to remember that alot of people, who don’t live in the area, probably think where you live, surrounded by bush, must be a very exciting, sunny place, so different from the noisy, impatient urban jungle where alot of us live. So even the simplest things you take for granted there could be facinating to your readers.

Or, you could write an episode of some fictional story each week, like a soap opera, and draw people in who just can’t wait to catch the next installment. Bit like the Archers on the radio (before your time I suspect!) or good old Coronation Street (or Fair City for that matter!)

Thanks for the advice! Maybe I will start writing a story, and I’ll think hard about what interesting things happen in Tabora that don’t really happen in other countries around the world. Well thank you for your comments and your engouragment. I’ll try and write as often as possible!
